About Chainmail Poetry

Chainmail Poetry is for the poets who believe in written word as human connection, and for the poets who need a little help with that.

Here's how it works:

  1. You read the latest Chainmail poem
  2. You incorporate a single line or phrase from it into a new, original poem
  3. You email us at chainmailpoetry@gmail.com with the following information:
    • Your name or pen name
    • Your 3rd person bio
    • Your poem, attached, with the incorporated line clearly marked
  4. One response per poem will be chosen for publication
  5. All poems link to their predecessor and successor, thus joining the chain of Chainmail Poetry

Please don't send us:
  1. AI-assisted work of any kind
  2. Overly complicated formatting
  3. Hateful or intolerant language

There are no submission fees, no length limits, and no themes. There's also no pay but we will sing your praises forevermore and possibly nominate you for a Pushcart Prize or the Best of the Net anthology too.

Due to the generative nature of Chainmail Poetry, we assume and expect that your submission is previously unpublished. However, we encourage you to submit your Chainmail-spawned work far and wide, and keep trying with our newest poem each week. We also encourage comments—inspire us and tell us what inspired you! Maybe audition a stanza. Keep that poetic tongue as sharp as a blade.

Use us as your never-ending source of consensual writing prompts.

By submitting to Chainmail, you grant permission for the potential reuse of your original words, and upon acceptance, first electronic rights and non-exclusive electronic archive rights. All rights revert back to the author upon publication. If reprinted, please acknowledge both Chainmail Poetry as the first place of publication AND the previous poet with whom you've collaborated.

Chainmail Poetry is edited by Caridad Cole.

  1. Nice, I love the idea. Here is another one: THIS is as chaincomment! Who ever read this must add one paragraph of a chain of ever bloating guidelines in the writing community. Every comment must start with "GUIDELINES:". 1. Guidelines: Please read our Guideline-Guidelines before you read this. We do not accept submissions that have been written before our Guidelines publications. We do not accept text that has not been properly formatted (check our formatting FAQ before you read our Formatting Bible). Send your texts ONLY on every second half-moon - (no Fridays please). We accept Fiction-Non-Fiction only if your voice sounds like it tells it like it is having to have been told.
